Gruha Jyothi Scheme is a socially beneficial scheme launched by the Government of Karnataka. This scheme was one of the election promises made by the Congress government in Karnataka in 2023. This was implemented after coming to power. Its main objective is to provide financial relief to domestic electricity consumers. 

Under this scheme, all eligible domestic electricity consumers of the state are provided free electricity up to 200 units every month. This scheme has been specially designed to help poor and middle-class families so that the burden of rising electricity bills can be reduced.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme Registration Process: Step by Step

There are both offline and online methods available in the scheme. Follow the steps: 

Gruha Jyothi Scheme Apply Online

Step 1. Visit the official website.

Step 2. Click on “GruhaJyothi Scheme” on the homepage.

Step 3. Enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number and verify through OTP.

Step 4. Enter Electricity Consumer ID. This is written on your BESCOM or other electricity company receipt (Customer ID / Account ID).

Step 5. Upload the required documents like Aadhar card, Electricity bill (recent), if a tenant, then the rent deed/self-declaration, etc.

Step 6. Accept the declaration.

Step 7. Click on the submit button. After submission, you will get an Acknowledgement / Reference Number. Keep it safe.

Offline Apply for Gruha Jyoti Scheme

Step 1. Visit the Grama One / Karnataka One / Bangalore One centre in your area.

Step 2. Carry the required documents.

Step 3. The centre operator will fill out your online form on the portal.

Step 4. Your Aadhaar number will be verified through OTP.

Step 5. After filling the form, the operator will give you an Acknowledgement Number / Reference ID.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant must be a resident of the state of Karnataka.
• The scheme applies only to residential electricity connections.
• The average monthly electricity consumption of the previous year (2022–23) should be 200 units or less.
• The electricity connection must be linked to the applicant’s Aadhaar card.
• Only one connection from a family can avail the scheme.
• Tenants can also apply, but they must provide the landlord’s permission or a lease agreement.

Step 1. Go to Seva Sindhu Portal.

Step 2. Click on the “Track Gruha Jyothi Application Status” option.

Step 3. Enter Application Number (Reference Number) or Aadhaar Number.

Step 4. Then click on the submit. 

Step 5. View the application status on the screen (Approved / Under Review / Rejected).
